What We Learnt During No Falls Week: Our 5 Key Takeaways

At Marlowe Fire and Security Group, working at height safely is not a choice – it’s a responsibility.

That’s why we were proud to take part in a dedicated No Falls Week event hosted by Horizon Platforms. It brought together industry professionals, access specialists and safety advocates with a shared goal – to improve how we work at height.

The UK already leads the way when it comes to access safety, but there’s always more we can do. No Falls Week gave us the chance to step back, reflect and re-focus our efforts on what really matters.

Here are five key takeaways we took from the event.

1. Falls from height remain a serious, preventable risk

We were reminded that 50 people in the UK lost their lives last year as a result of falls from height – and over 700 have died since the regulations first came into force.

These are not just statistics. They represent real people and they highlight why working at height must always be treated with care, respect and responsibility. Every one of us (businesses, suppliers and individuals) has a role to play in preventing future incidents.

2. Progress depends on cross-industry collaboration

One of the most valuable aspects of the day was the exchange of ideas. Representatives from across the Marlowe Fire & Security Group joined others from the industry to discuss common challenges and share approaches that are making a difference.

Real progress doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens when knowledge is shared, experience is valued and organisations work together to raise standards for everyone.

3. Equipment matters – but so do behaviours

Access equipment is critical, but it’s only as effective as the people using it. We heard throughout the day how individual actions and site-level decisions can make the biggest difference to safety outcomes.

From daily checks to proper set-up and supervision, getting the basics right consistently helps reduce risk. Training, communication and a strong safety culture remain central to that effort.

4. Face-to-face learning drives better engagement

Listening directly to experts, seeing demonstrations first-hand and discussing real-life scenarios helped our teams absorb the message more clearly and apply it more confidently.

The event created a space where practical learning could happen. It reinforced the importance of investing time in safety conversations and making room for open dialogue across teams.

5. Sharing knowledge helps everyone improve

No Falls Week is more than an event – it’s a reminder that safety is ongoing. What we do next is what truly counts.

We’re already sharing what we learnt with colleagues across the business. Because the more we talk about safe working at height, the more we reinforce the right behaviours and contribute to a safer, more informed industry.

Thank you to Horizon Platforms for hosting the event and to the wider No Falls Week campaign for giving the industry a powerful reason to pause, learn and recommit to safety.

“It was a pleasure to host Marlowe Fire & Security Group as part of No Falls Week. The session was a valuable opportunity to share best practices and exchange key safety insights for MEWP use. Also, we deepened our understanding of the daily challenges faced by those planning and executing work-at-height tasks. Initiatives like No Falls Week are essential for driving awareness and continuous improvement for working safely at height.”
