At FAFS Fire & Security, an MFSG business, we’re proud to collaborate with suppliers who share our commitment to sustainability, and Poole Waite, one of our largest suppliers of ironmongery for fire doors, is a perfect example of that.
As part of their ongoing environmental initiative, Poole Waite now provides a free collection service for all fire doors we remove from site; doors that would otherwise end up in skips or landfill. Once collected, the doors are taken to their workshop in Bexley, where each one is carefully processed for re-use, recycling, or re-sale.
Depending on its condition, the ironmongery and glass from each door are either removed and recycled or left intact for reuse and upcycling. Fire doors that can’t be reused are stripped for valuable components, while all remaining materials are fully recycled:
· Timber is sent to Poole Waite’s recycling partner, where it’s transformed into bioenergy that helps power homes and businesses.
· Glass is recycled into glass fibre and insulation materials for construction.
· Plastic is processed into pellets, which are reused to create everyday products such as cutlery and other plastic goods.
Nothing goes to waste; every material collected by Poole Waite or dropped off at their Bexley site is repurposed for the benefit of businesses, communities, and the planet.
In addition to their recycling efforts, Poole Waite also holds ISO Certification and EPD Certificates for newly supplied ironmongery, demonstrating embodied carbon savings of up to 79% compared to other new products. Their in-house powder coating process uses low-energy AkzoNobel powder with built-in antimicrobial properties and zero volatile organic compounds (VOCs), producing no hazardous waste and significantly reducing environmental impact.
At MFSG, we’re proud to partner with suppliers like Poole Waite who take sustainability seriously. Together, we’re not only improving our environmental performance but also contributing to a circular economy and creating a greener future.
